Growing Fresh Fruit

Some people are blessed with large gardens and the time, energy, and dedication to garden them beautifully and crop them bountifully.  I myself have a very small garden which serves as a play area for the children, and little time or money to dedicate to serious gardening.  However, I do enjoy using my greenhouse to produce superb small tomatoes, sweet peppers, lettuces (in a grow-bag), and the odd melon, cucumber or aubergine.

Many types of fruit or vegetable can be successfully grown outside in containers, or even hanging baskets, e.g. trailing strawberries, tomatoes, dwarf runner beans. Try a potato in a large pot, carrots in a tall pot, a dwarf patio peach tree, or a ballerina-type pear or apple tree. Train a blackberry, raspberry or fruit tree against a fence.  Encourage the children to grow some fruit or vegetables - it may even encourage them to eat it!!! (as well as earning a Brownie badge!)  We are not talking about total self-sufficiency, just fresh, fruity fun!
